Looking For Justice

Looking For Justice
By Denelle Turner

Hello,

My name is Denelle Turner. I am serving a 21 year to life sentence for a self
defense case. I was 17 years old when a grown man who just got out of prison came and threatened my life with a gun. Several witnesses in my case even said I was acting in self defense. But because Ohio didn’t have a stand your ground law until the last few years, the system took the chance to take away the life of a young black man. Being locked up for the last 16 years, I should have been serving at minimal, a manslaughter case. This is what Ohio calls justice. Not allowing a new law to be retroactive when they knew it would benefit minorities. The Ohio justice system is corrupt and chooses not to help the lives it has ruined. Continuing to openly destroy the lives of young black men, for defending themselves. I am seeking any help to right this wrong. Not just for me but for everyone in my situation and those who might come after. Ohio pushes these draconian laws as if they are justice. This is not justice. This is an act of cruel and unusual punishment that needs to be corrected. Please reach out if you’re interested.
