Building Healthy Relationships With Defiant Faith
By Lamont Harrell
Building healthy relationships with family and your community are the panacea to spreading love in a world so full of hate. Healthy relationships should be centered around these seven principles; communication, genuineness, reciprocity, respect, trust, loyalty and love. The only way to apply these principles is to have an open mind and magnanimous way of thinking. Humility gives us the ability to be open-minded and not judgmental when it comes to building healthy relationships. Motivation coming from a creative way of thinking is needed when you are trying to come to a consensus with a person or people who are closed minded or oblivious to the message you are delivering. Some people are content with their position in life so they don’t feel that they need to change anything about themselves. This is when our defiant faith in the seven principles has to kick in and we have to be the reflection of the principles through word, action and deeds.
I say this because communication cultivates intimacy and fosters a sense of togetherness. It’s through the effective use of communication that a collective consciousness, understanding and love is developed.
Genuineness allows you to be real at all times which is something most people respect. The strength, security and liveliness of a relationship or bond are directly dependent upon the genuineness of each person. In order for this relationship or bond to maintain and sustain a healthy existence demands that each person demonstrate genuineness in in their every thought and action. Only through being genuine can the healthy bonds and relationships maintain within a community.

Reciprocity means to be reciprocal when dealing with others. It means to always wanting the best for the next man/woman and demonstrate such by regarding him/her as an extension of yourselves.
Respect means to always display and demonstrate consideration for the community and the entities that are present within the community. Respect within a household or community is a must for everyone if we want to build a collective consciousness centered around love. It must be understood that respect is a reciprocal process. Not only is respect earned but it is also given.

Trust must be present in order for a strong relationship /bond to be valid. Trust is essential to the longevity of a relationship. Trust allows the bond to grow and cultivates unity and solidarity. Trust is a component that makes a bond type. Trust is one of the things that must be developed for our collective growth and development as a people. Loyalty is an obligation and duty that must be fulfilled to build our communities.
Loyalty means to have a selfless way of thinking and be willing to help take care of your fellow brother/sister responsibilities when they are not able to do so. It means always acting in the best interest of the collective no matter the situation. Loyalty also means to encourage your brother and sister to do what’s right, and give constructive criticism when you see them doing something wrong or beneath their dignity.
The last one is love, and love is the ultimate sacrifice. It is the giving of oneself without expecting anything in return. Love strengthens and perpetuates the existence of people within the community and it’s ideas, principles and aspirations. Sacrifice is the ultimate act of love and one must sacrifice everything that is hindering the growth of their selves, family and community. Defiant faith in these principles will allow us to start building healthy relationships.
